Crested Cream Legbars

Shona and Senga are purebred Crested Cream Legbars from the Jill Rees line that I hatched last spring. If you’re frustrated by having to wait to figure out the sex of your chicks then you’ll be happy with this breed – they are auto-sexing, meaning that cockerels and pullets look different right at hatch.

I ended up with 5 pullets and 3 cockerels. Legbars are just starting to become popular in North America but are still considered rare here. They were developed in Britain using Barred Plymouth Rock, Brown Leghorn, Araucana and Golden Campine chickens.

They combine some of the features I like: crests, nice patterning, calm disposition and blue eggs.
