Too often roosters get a bad rap, often by folks who don’t understand chicken biology (i.e. testosterone) and psychology. Some of us are blessed with easy boys, while others find a way to work with the more challenging ones.
Chickens are flock animals and roosters have their role to play: protectors, mediators of disputes, finding food, and of course, making babies. In this post I think we could add a few more adjectives to the list including clowns, entertainers, nurturers and loyal friends.

I have been cracking up at the Silkie rooster, Mr. Eggatha. He has a slightly twisted beak and is the smaller of my two roosters. He tries to stand up so tall when he is next to the big boy, Chewy. I don’t know how it doesn’t hurt his back. I think he does it to try to impress the girls. He is constantly doing a little dance around the Pecker Palace chickens, Nugget, Shelly, and Emu, but they are proud to be single and want nothing to do with him. Luckily for him though, the Silkie girls, Hay-Hay and Princess Laya don’t seem to mind him.

I was finally visited by the mythical Random-Chicken-In-My-Yard fairy in October. I posted about him in local groups hoping to find his original home, but received no responses so it seems he lives here now. He’s tiny and cute. My hens have mostly accepted him and he’s fairly well behaved other than occasionally being offended by my choice in backyard footwear. I’ve always been interested in getting some bantam breeds and he has strengthened that interest. He’s so light and easy to handle compared to my much beefier chickens.

Life has been so chaotic and my house chickens have kinda multiplied. This is a really weird question: my significant other and I cannot find ANYTHING online.
Does anyone have a gay rooster? I can’t get my rooster to like any females unless it’s me. Gary loved my other rooster when he was still alive. He LOVES my dove (I never leave them alone because of them being different species and the size difference). My dove constantly courts my rooster and Gary has tidbit for him before. They do not like anyone coming into their relationship. I’ve tried for the longest time to get Gary to like my females. Not only is he terrified and HATES them, they hate him too. A lot.
I’m scared of asking because I know it’s irresponsible of me to have let these two fallen in love like this, but it happened so quickly and unexpectedly. I’m scared this is my fault due to some sort of negligence. For the life of me my rooster does not love women; I taught him better than that, cause I do.

I was out feeding the Silkies, when my roo Chewy pecked me hard on my wrist, breaking skin. I grabbed him and basically told him he was MY b*tch and he wasn’t going to be doing that again. Afterwards, I was really hoping no neighbors, especially small children, were outside at the same time. If you need me, I’ll be listening to Doggylands’s Nursery music, especially the Affirmation song to chill myself down.

Everyone meet Silverstream. We bought him at auction when my son was in elementary school; he’s now a senior in college. This little guy is the sweetest boy. I’m guessing he’s 11+ years old.

I brought my new rooster home six minutes ago. He already owes two hens child support and got a restraining order from two more!

Something got into my hen. it started several days ago and is getting worse. She’s always been a good mother. This is her fourth hatch and I have seen her turn on her babies once they get a little older. I know that’s natural to teach them, but she has never turned on them this young nor been so aggressive. She’s not just chasing and picking on her babies, it’s everyone. She won’t even allow them to drink or eat and now they are scared to go near her.

Update: It looks like she has made up her mind and decided to hand over complete custody of all her kids to Daddy Roo. It’s quite apparent that it was an amicable divorce as he has left his longtime family perch where he once resided moving on to his own roost taking all the kids with him. Tonight, they all look quite happy and content with Daddy Roo while she still resides on the family perch just across the way. It seems like he has put up boundaries and will allow her near them on his own terms once she proves she has worked on her anger issue and shows she will no longer physically abuse the kids.
