My original wooden nest boxes were salvaged from someone’s disused coop.
I got them for free and replaced the lid with plywood, which I covered with a cutoff piece of marmoleum.
No matter how many nest boxes you’ve got your hens will always want more. They fight over the primo spot, which changes all the time.
I added a bank of nest boxes beside the first ones. There are four plastic milk crates zap strapped together and screwed to the wall. Again, that wasn’t enough so I added a couple of low, open plastic trays on top.
I put a strip of wood along the fronts to keep the eggs from being knocked out. They are super easy to hose out, which I do a few times a year.
